The PIC-AMERICAS aims to support internationalization of the higher education institutions in building and developing human capital by offering comprehensive training opportunities for faculty and staff that contribute using COIL to prepare the current and future generations of the Americas to tackle modern global complex political, economic, environmental, and social challenges.
Our team is dedicated to supporting higher education institutions in every step of their journey towards creating and facilitating outstanding Virtual Exchange (COIL) programs. Through our expert guidance, leadership, and networking support, we empower these institutions to design and develop immersive virtual experiences that transcend borders, opening new doors for students to connect, collaborate, and learn from their peers across the globe. We take pride in providing a comprehensive suite of resources that enable institutions to seamlessly integrate virtual exchange programs into their curricula and internationalization efforts, enriching the academic experience for all learners.
These are the services we provide to the field:
- Networking for finding potential COIL teaching partners through partnering activities and a partnering platform (coil.americas.ampei.org.mx).
- Professional development for instructors through COIL Design Workshops and the Mentoring program.
- Leadership training for staff/administrators through our COIL Coordinators Seminar.
Three years after its implementation, the Program's success is documented through the participation of more than 289 North American professors from 90 higher education institutions: from the United States, Mexico, and Canada, including rural regions, yielding 120 courses with a COIL component. These virtual international exchanges are the result of the program’s low-cost and high-impact results in advancing bilateral and trilateral academic partnerships. To date, over 3,500 faculty members and students have benefited from this initiative using state-of-the-art innovative educational technology tools. The initiative has also offered specialized training to prepare leaders who will become COIL coordinators.
